Easter Baskets

During the Easter Season, HIS provides families with Easter meals and Easter baskets for the children. Here's what we need:

  • Whole Chickens
  • Hams
  • Canned Vegetables (green beans or corn)
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Pies (or pie crusts & filling)
  • Easter Basket fillers for kids (candy, small toys and games)
  • Grocery giftcards or a donation designated for the food pantry
Summer Program

HIS Kids Club operates as a full-time day camp during the summer. Kids go on fun field trips, enjoy a healthy lunch and participate in enrichment activities.

The program is free of charge to our clients. Get involved by sponsoring a child for the summer. A $50 donation will cover the cost of one child to attend the program for one week. Donate online and designate HIS Kids as the recipient of your gift.

10% Back to Schools (September 2008)
Check the bottom of your VONS receipt for a redemption code. If you have one, drop off or mail your receipts to HIS or enter the code now. VONS will give HIS 10% of what you spent during the summer months on qualifying items.
Albertsons, Ralphs and VONS support HIS all year long through your grocery loyalty cards. Find out how you can participate.
Holiday Baskets

Each Christmas, we distribute approximately 225 baskets filled with all the trimmings for a great holiday meal. The response from the community for Thanksgiving baskets was overwhelming! Our freezers are filled to capacity with turkeys and hams which we will be distributing at Christmas.

Right now, we are most in need of toys and gifts for children and teens. New, unwrapped toys and games for children of all ages (newborn-18) and gift cards to entertainment venues (zoo passes, movie rental gift cards, electronics store gift cards, etc) will be gladly accepted throughout the holiday season.

You can always give the gift of services for our clients through a monetary donation. Here's what your gift can do for us:
$50 - allows us to care for two young children in our childcare center
$100 - covers the cost of three nights in the emergency family shelter
$500 - purchases books for a single mom attending college
$1000 - funds a week of our after-school program

You can bring in donations to our office at 670 W. Ninth Street, San Pedro, California. There is a 15-minute loading zone on Ninth Street, and you can enter through the gate to the right of the building into our Family Resource Center. There is also a small parking area behind our building - you can enter through the alley on Gaffey just north of Ninth Street. At this time, we also appreciate that you save your donations of used clothes and other items until after the holiday season. We simply don't have the physical capacity for it all during this time of year!
