STOP Hunger Now

In the South Bay area, more than 20,000 households are considered "food insufficient," which means they run out of money for healthy meals each month. Seniors often must choose between paying for prescriptions or putting food on the table. Mothers often go to bed hungry because they put their children first. This program was started with a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help eligible people sign up for food stamps. The program also provides outreach and nutritional education. Since 2005, HIS has helped more than more than 1,000 families enroll in the food stamps program.
