Ms. Montrea Jara joined Harbor Interfaith in April 2016. Ms. Jara has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation from undergrad, she attended Southwestern Law School where she earned her Juris Doctor. While there, she volunteered for various non-profit organizations serving low-income and homeless individuals. She volunteered for the Domestic Violence Project drafting temporary restraining orders. Over the summer in 2014, she completed an externship with Innocence Matters on a case in which the client was eventually exonerated and found to be factually innocent after spending 17 years in prison. Ms. Jara was a law clerk for both the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Law Offices of the Public Defender-Riverside County. At the Law Offices of the Public Defender she assisted in the Mental Health Unit and Veterans’ Court, where majority of the clients were homeless. In the future, Ms. Jara wants to assist participants of the A.L.L. Program in having their records expunged.
